Offering this important and exceedingly rare vintage pair of designer hand-hammered solid copper wall-hanging candle holders by Glencroft Coppersmiths. Glencroft was founded by Glen Reece, one of the coppersmith artisians of Roycroft. Glencroft copper is very rarely encountered, and when it is found, it is usually mugs or the occasional serving tray. I’ve never seen another pair of wall-hanging candle holders like these. These are many decades old but are still bright and beautiful, only very minimal scratching, see photos for condition details. Hand Hammered Pair of Candle Wall Sconces. 2 Solid Copper decorative wall sconces. Hanging hook soldered on back. Signed Glencroft Coppersmiths with Large G and candlestick logo on each sconce. Glencroft Copper founded by Glen Reece in 1948 in NY. With its mark of the Big G and little candle, was started in South Buffalo. NY in 1948, moved to Clarence in 1954 and is now based in Tonawanda NY. It was started by Glen Reece who had previously been with the Roycroft campus. The name is now owned by his grandson. This unique decorative hammered copper wall sconce dates to the late 19th century, circa 1895. Having a solid hammered copper front attached to a board back with integral holes for suspension. The sconce is designed to hold two candles when hung from a wall. It displays all the workmanship and quality that one would expect from a genuine arts and crafts movement piece. The Arts and Crafts movement developed in the late 19th century in rebellion against the mechanisation and dehumanisation of industry in Britain. Emphasis was put on hand made quality goods, often quite simplistic in design. The raised figure of The Paschal Lamb was the chief emblem in the regimental insignia of The Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment which was a line infantry regiment of the British Army from 1661 to 1959. In 1959 the regiment was amalgamated with the East Surrey Regiment to form the Queens Royal Surrey Regiment. Unusually the motto is in French and reads Honneur Pour Objet which translates to’honour for object’. This is a unique item. It will display excellently in a contemporary or more traditional style interior. Measuring: Height 11 inch (28 cm) by width 8 5/8 inch (22 cm). Depth 3 inch (7.5 cm). Condition: This item is in good, original untouched condition including the suspension twine with a good natural patina.
