Wall Candle Holders

This unique decorative hammered copper wall sconce dates to the late 19th century, circa 1895. Having a solid hammered copper front attached to a board back with integral holes for suspension. The sconce is designed to hold two candles when hung from a wall. It displays all the workmanship and quality that one would expect from a genuine arts and crafts movement piece. The Arts and Crafts movement developed in the late 19th century in rebellion against the mechanisation and dehumanisation of industry in Britain. Emphasis was put on hand made quality goods, often quite simplistic in design. The raised figure of The Paschal Lamb was the chief emblem in the regimental insignia of The Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment which was a line infantry regiment of the British Army from 1661 to 1959. In 1959 the regiment was amalgamated with the East Surrey Regiment to form the Queens Royal Surrey Regiment. Unusually the motto is in French and reads Honneur Pour Objet which translates to’honour for object’. This is a unique item. It will display excellently in a contemporary or more traditional style interior. Measuring: Height 11 inch (28 cm) by width 8 5/8 inch (22 cm). Depth 3 inch (7.5 cm). Condition: This item is in good, original untouched condition including the suspension twine with a good natural patina.
