Being offered is a rare pair of antique early 18th century English brass wall scones. By styling and design these are from the first quarter of the 18th century. Condition is used but very good. These were obviously part of a larger set by the dots on the arms and back plates see photos. Brass casting is primitive with numerous casting imperfections see photos. Back-plates, arms and drip pans have metal staining throughout and scratches, dents, dings and rasp marks. Sconces have never been electrified nor harshly polished or lacquered. As is expected on these early candle holders the cups do not fit a modern candle as they have larger diameters than the older designs. Candles can be installed by trimming the base of the candle or purchasing craft candles which are designed to fit older candle holders. Wall projection: 8 3/4 inches. Vertical Height: 4 Inches (approximately). Back Plate Diameter: 3 inches approximately. They are not perfectly round and vary a bit by about 1/16. Weight: One sconce is 1 lb & 1 ounce and the second 1 lb & 2 ounces. Serious inquiries only by those who appreciate, know, and collect early lighting. The item “Antique Pair of Early 18th C.
