This beautiful piece, possibly dating from the Napoleon III period, in France. Shows wonderful detailing and sculpturing of the bronze design work, showing the Latin moto “NEC PLURIBUS IMPAR”. The sconce is in generally very good condition for its age. It has, however, at some point been sympathetically modified to accept electric cable. We, however, have left it in the condition in which it was sourced – to take candles. The bronze shows incredible patina and colouration, due to its age and makes a rare and magnificent statement piece on any wall. Beautiful group of Three – triple candle bronze wall sconces – these date from circa last quarter of 19th century. Cast from bronze – they have fine scrolling arms – creating an open, less heavy appearance- pretty scalloped edge bobèche. These would make a fine feature on any wall and would create such a perfect light holding nine candles. Although these are as they would have originally been made – it would be feasible to adapt these to electric if required. 2 of the sconces have been wired at sometime, as they have holes in the candle holders to facilitate the wiring – the same two sconces also have a bar at the reverse in the centre with a screw end to affix to the wall – this would result in two projecting out further from the wall (see measurements and photos). Condition – Excellent antique condition – no damage – we have only lightly cleaned – if you wished to polish them to a bright golden shine – this would work. This is for three – Please do check the photos they do form an important part of the description. Combined weight unpacked 3 kilos. Measurements of sconce without fixing rod. Depth from wall 6.75/17cms. Height 5.75/14.5cms. Measurements of Pair with fixing rod. Depth from wall 9.25/23.5cms (not inc screw absorbed into the wall). THIEME GERMANY DOUBLE ARM PORCELAIN WALL SCONCE WINGED CHERUB Dresden. MARK ON BACK T Over Cross Swords THIEME. This is an antique Thieme porcelain wall sconce dating from the late 1800′s. Mark on back is the T over crossed swords. HISTORY: Carl-Johann Gottlob Thieme started in 1864 in Dresden a porcelain and antique shop. He was also running a porcelain painting business. In September 1872 he established a porcelain factory named Sächsische Porzellan-Fabrik Carl Thieme zu Potschappel. Soft aqua blue glaze , multi-colored flowers (some have flea bites on the petals) and leaves adorn the arms. Embellished with gold, has leaf bobeches (one of the bobeche needs repair), and a Colonial scene of a woman playing the mandolin and a man playing the flute. It has a winged cherub at the base draped in a yellow cloth and holding flowers. Not perfect, needs repair, but definitely worth restoring. Thank you for looking!
